Google Maps is helping passengers navigate airports and train stations with the addition of its Live View augmented reality capability.
The update is part of a number of new features with Google Maps aiming to make “100 AI-powered improvements” in 2021.
Live View helps passengers locate their gates and/or platforms, the nearest elevator and escalators, cash machines and other places via arrows and directions.
The roll-out is planned for select airports, malls and stations in Tokyo and Zurich in the coming months with further cities on the way.
Additional features being added to the maps include a weather layer, which will be available globally, for both current and forecasted temperature and weather conditions.
An air quality layer will also be available initially in Australia, India and the U.S.
Google Maps is also making transport options easier to compare enabling users to see what transport modes are available and how long it takes to get to a destination without moving between different tabs.
Maps will also prioritize preferred modes for users and highlight popular modes in a city.
