MEP Josianne Cutajar was appointed Vice Chair of the SEArica Intergroup at the European Parliament, focusing on islands, seas, rivers and coastal areas.

In this role, Cutajar will be focusing her work, in particular, on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) as well as digitalisation.

The Maltese MEP is working on policies that assist businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones, work which has intensified in times that were dominated by the Covid pandemic. The MEP is also working towards a universal digital transition, one that includes small businesses hailing from islands such as Malta and Gozo.

In her first reaction to this appointment, Cutajar said that she was pleased that her colleagues have demonstrated their trust in her and the work she is doing, which trust she will translate into more work towards stronger and more relevant European policies in these areas.

She said that, as a Gozitan, she fully understood challenges islands faced and will focus her efforts to ensure that the European Union enters into a new pact with its islands.
