Silvan Camilleri is not a new face to the many guests and clients who have experienced The Phoenicia Malta over the past two and a half years. Indeed, as our Food and Beverage Manager he has been responsible for overseeing the running of our Food and Beverage Outlets and popular banqueting operation since 2018.
We are very proud to announce that Silvan has a new role on the team, that of Hotel Manager, which will see him take on the responsibility for all operational departments pertaining to the day-to-day running of the hotel, namely Food and Beverage, Kitchen, Housekeeping, Rooms, Front Office, and our newly launched Deep Nature Spa.
“Of course, I understand that this comes at the most challenging time this hotel has ever been through,” Silvan, who has worked at numerous five-star properties in Malta, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, tells us. “We don’t know what’s coming next, how travel restrictions will affect us, and what the rules will be.”
But there has been a silver lining to all of this. Indeed, the pandemic has made us look at our industry and our role in a different way. It’s given us the time and tools to really look at what can and needs to be changed, and at what should be preserved and built upon. At present it is definitely true when I consider the quote “The only constant in these times is change” and it is the individuals and companies who embrace this opportunity to level up will thrive and this is where Silvan will play a key role in taking The Phoenicia Malta to the next level.
“Together with our owner and director, we believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel, which is why over the past few months we have set the ball rolling to focus on creating an even greater experience for our clients and guests than ever before. We are recruiting new personnel, investing in training, enhancing our Phoenix restaurant and terrace experience, and we have other surprises in the wind which we will be launching over the coming months so “stay tuned” says Silvan. One thing that will never change, however, is the human element, which we believe is one of our strongest points assets here at The Phoenicia Malta.”
For Silvan, this new role is something that he has long been working towards, and as his 19 years of experience in the industry have certainly prepared him well to take on such big challenges.
Indeed, hospitality is one of his passions, ‘along with supporting the Manchester City football club,’ he cheekily tells us.
“No one in my family had done this sort of work before, but from the moment I walked into this industry as a part-time waiter in my teens, I enjoyed it. Hospitality is about creating last experiences for others, and our reward comes from doing that well. The only thing that gives me more satisfaction is seeing my son, [one-year-old] Jack, growing up!”
If there is one thing anyone in the hospitality industry can tell you is that it needs to be in your blood, it is about having genuine motivation, commitment and passion. Our new Hotel Manager clearly has all of these traits and is a wonderful Ambassador for The Phoenicia Malta and all that we stand for, so there’s not much left to say but to let him get on with this new challenge and wish him the best of luck in the process.
