Guests will be able to watch a movie while they eat, but the aircraft won't leave the ground

Diners in Singapore have jumped at the chance to have dinner on a parked plane at the city's main airport.

Looking for new business models to make up for lost revenues amid the coronavirus outbreak, Singapore Airlines has launched Restaurant A380. Guests can order a meal from the standard in-flight menu at £30 per head in economy, or passengers can pay £380 for the full works in a suite. A meal in business class costs £246, dropping to £54 for premium economy.

Proving popular, the first two seating dates on October 24 and 25 sold out within half an hour, the airline told Bloomberg. Two more dates have been added, with a waiting list set up for lunch and dinner settings.

Two Airbus A380 planes will be used for the three-hour sessions, at half capacity to adhere to social distancing measures.

Guests will be able to watch a movie while they eat, but the aircraft won't leave Changi Airport.

Singapore Airlines is also offering home delivery, which includes the airlines' tableware and amenity kits.
